%LINK-3-UPDOWN:
Interface ERIN0/0/0, changed state to downI woke up at 6:00 am yesterday morning, and was awake until 4:00 this morning, all because of the same stupid fucking frame relay problem. Motherfucking telcos that couldn't surgically remove their heads from their arses if their lives depended on it refusing any responsibility for their hardware and flaky connections. It's promising to be yet another fucking long night, thanks to this last-mile bullshit.

New and news alot
I've held off on mentioning a lot of this stuff, so I'll just start the year in review...January 9th, 2006 - Nate (formerly known as The Boy) and I, after 5+ years of dating, tied the knot in courthouse style, and exchanged rings outside of the coffeeshop where we had our first date. My sister and one of Nate's employees acted as our witnesses, along with my little nephew Squishy.
I turned 27 in March (the 10th, specifically), and my little sister turned at last legal on March 28th. The gods themselves tremble.
Nate turned 32 in April (the 26th). He's not enjoying the early thirties, or so he says, but I suspect he's not really vain enough to be that concerned about his age. Besides, he looks cute when that thin spot on top gets a little sun-kissed.
May 28th, Nate and I held our wedding reception, after months of dragging our feet. We had a nice, informal (I wore a t-shirt and running shorts) gathering at a state park on the kind of day that makes you grateful for central air. Unfortunately, there was no central air to be had at the park. That's not a good thing. But we enjoyed ourselves, and our families met for the first time. My father and Nate's father got along swimmingly, but most of the womenfolk stayed divided by family-side. Literally on opposite sides of the room. After the reception, we took a roadtrip to Santa Fe, NM, almost 1000 miles from our little hamlet in Clive, IA.
Santa Fe was our home for nearly a week, and, indeed, by the end, we were complaining about the "fucking tourists" frequently and emphatically. Even now, we miss the "it's a dry heat", green chile, friendly locals, and gorgeous scenery. Already, we are planning our retirement in the desert.
My little sister had a wedding of her own on June 24th. I finally got to see my dad in a tuxedo, and little Squishy, too. The wedding was beautiful, despite the rain (love these outdoor weddings...), and now my parents have both of their daughters fully married off. :)
Nate is due to have surgery in a few days, for a minor problem he's been dealing with, somewhat uncomfortably, for the last several months. I'm nervous, but when am I not? Only I could worry about something so simple as to be an outpatient procedure...
And Nate & I have made a slight mechanical adjustment to the physical side of our relationship. We've decided, due, I'm sure, in no slight part to the exposure to little Squishy over the last 9 months, that we're not entirely adverse to the idea of having a baby. So, with that little mechanical adjustment, we're going to enjoy practicing until whatever happens happens.
KTHXBYE.

Anthropological-ish:
The Kidnapped Bride - a Frontline story from 2004 about the Kyrgyz custom of bridenapping.
Voynich manuscript - fascinating WikiPedia article about an odd document of unspecified origin and authorship.
What I feel I'm becoming more like recently...
Above all things, gentlemen, please be diverse.
The science of being shy.
Layman biblical "archaeologist" who wonders why his random theories are being ignored by the mainstream arch. community.
New study of the Hudson-Meng Bison Kill.
Music:
Lou Reed, John Cale, and Nico performing "Heroin", my favourite VU song, ever, live, in 1972 in Paris. Absolutely one of the most fantastic things I've ever seen. Ever. Completely.
Turn a Best Buy overstock router into a super-capable, Linux-backed device that's ultra-stable. I applied this to my router, and haven't had to reboot it since in order to maintain wireless stability.
The story behind the above.
Okay - bye!
